Return to conservative doctrine: the Right Path to a successful governance

– speech delivered on the occasion of the European Conservatives and Reformists Conference that Alternativa Dreaptă has organized this weekend in Bucharest, under the auspices of the ECR Party.

Europe and Romania cannot thrive without allowing the accumulation of wealth for their citizens, individually.

Allowing such an individual accumulation, which produces further on wealth at institutional level, implies a drastic rearrangement of the state-citizen relationship.

The hyper-coercive, hyper-intrusive, hyperbolised and, as such, hyper-corrupt, hyper-inefficient and hyper-abusive state must go.

As simple as that!

This state must be profoundly reformed in the sense of making its action more efficient and dramatically reducing the related bureaucratic apparatus.

The limited government is the answer.

It should be noted that the only benefit of taxation, stated with a bitter and full sense of humor by Gabriel Mursa in „Fiscal Interventionism”, was the emergence of Euclidean geometry. „For the rest, the history of taxation is, for at least 4000 years, one of abuse, chaos, violence, discrimination, exceptions and privileges”.

Dramatically reducing the tax burden, both from the shoulders of the citizens and from the shoulders of the private sector, concurrently with fiscal responsibility is the answer.

The economic thinking, applied in the legislative framework, of the Right Alternative, for example, comfortingly escapes from the bankrupt specter of the Keynesian postulates, by unmasking them as pauperizing. And it embraces the economic logic substantiated by thinkers such as von Mises, Hayek, Rothbard, Milton Friedman and, why not? of outstanding politicians such as Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher, Helmuth Kohl or Donald Trump.

Labor and income must NOT be taxed at abusive, aberrant and unproductive quotas which create privileged castes, beneficiaries of the special pension system, castes with discretionary assistance by the state to the maximum detriment of the contributive principle. If we obviously want real economic growth, individual wealth, a large government budget and the exit from under the sign of the Old and the New Left budget waste, the solution lies in public policies that encourage profit, defend private property, create jobs through the growth of the private sector of economy.

In the same time, we need to liberate the specialized economic education from the teachings of the welfare state gurus, inflationist and statist General Theory. That is, among other things, the demystification of the benefits of egalitarianism and state assistance.

For all these things in order to happen, it becomes imperative that the Conservative paradigm, boosted economically by the classical Liberal principles and the Christian-Democrat social values, takes the government and not only enters in the Parliament. And in the medium term – I dare you, for 2028 – our party must assume the governance of this country!

Such a horizon of expectancy can become all the more palpable as soon as the European Union becomes an institution we can believe in. We need a Europe we can believe in again, as we state in the Party Program itself, inspired by the Paris Declaration of 2017. A Europe that affirms its conservative, classic liberal and christian-democrat normality in national elections. And things are moving in the Right Direction, already.

We enthusiastically applaud Fratelli D’Italia and the Italian Prime Minister and also the President of ECR Group and Party, Giorgia Meloni; we have been admiring the governance example of Law and Justice Party – Prawo i Sprawiedliwość – from Poland, for years; we salute the success of the Moderate Party, the Christian Democrats and the Liberal Party which formed the government in Sweden; we are inspired by the the growth of VOX in Spain. The next in line is, of course, the Right Alternative from Romania…! And last but not least, we are watching full of hope the clash of epic proportions between the Republicans and the neo-Marxists in the United States.

In fact, speaking briefly about the Unites State, I understood finally the reason why Donald Trump coagulated against him so many resources and so much hatred was, among other things, That reason was that the former President of the United States – and, I hope, the future President of the United States! – was about to win (!) the cultural war and the sole of the Americans. This was and it has been the biggest fear of the Left! Four more years in the White House for Donald Trump would have been a disaster for the cultural assault of the so-called democratic establishment.

And the establishment may accept losing battles, of course, but never the war. Because the war has a huge stake: the conquest of the soul of the Western citizen and, through this, the annihilation of any type of resistance to massification and communization. Stake publicly exposed since the 20s of the last Century by the ‘trumpeters of the Frankfurt School and taken up literally by the current European and American New Left.

So, it’s not the guns talking. Not even the political campaigns. Nor the value of candidates and of their programs. In no case the ballot boxes, unfortunately. But, first of all, were the academies promoting the Marxist philosophy and the political correctness curriculae.

It is not militant propaganda with its expressions of street violence that is primary – even if it remains important in the strategy of the New Left – but the grafting of sculpture, literature, painting, dance, music, poetry with left-wing chimeras, hallucinating in aesthetics and values of visual arts, dramaturgy, architecture, urban signage, sexuality and finally by altering the entire public discourse.

The Conservatives, the Christian-Democrats, the Classic Liberals can and will win the confrontation in which they were drawn by the New and the Old Left, by resorting to a complex narrative with cultural springs and arguments, of reconstructing aesthetic language, of reaffirming classical philosophical truths and emotions, of rediscovering morality within the Christian Faith. This is beyond economics. This is beyond common politics.

The Cultural Right, the Culture of the Right, intellectuals, artists, all kinds of creators, scholars, must regain public trust, universities, high schools, schools, kindergartens, canvases, stages, libraries, museums, creative workshops, musical arenas and bring back the soul of Homo Europeanus to the ‘comforting space of beauty and common sense, the space of free debate and the atmosphere of freedom of thought, belief and expression. Only from that moment it will be possible to begin the political reconstruction of Romania, Europe and the West.

And that moment is near!

In order for all these things to happen, I affirm with confidence and argument that it is vital to return to the Conservative doctrine, in the manner that, among many others, Edmund Burke, Russell Kirk, Roger Scruton, guided us.

Here, I will insist. Because Doctrinal clarity is needed.

For years, in the absence of authentic doctrinal dichotomies, which would have had a different impact on the life of the political city and which would have placed cordial debates in the space of the real possibility of choosing between the Left and the Right – based on the supposedly different political and governing programs – the electorate has become indifferent to the political phenomenon, if not disgusted by it and it seems that he has no choice but to retreat behind the redoubt of his own interests. The absence of doctrinal prevalence, butchered for too many times by the public exercise for sake of accessing to power and its exercise only with the aim of plundering the state’s resources for personal benefit, of the political group and of the group’s acolytes, through the total defiance of the citizen, has almost destroyed the trust in democracy and the moral fiber that it naturally resides in every human being.

On this trend, devastating for the health of democratic life and in response to „public demand” manipulated and adapted to the “new realities”, many politicians appeared to declare themselves as being apolitical and behave as such. Politicians, far too many of them, firmly state and behave as if they and their… political parties do not embrace any kind of… political doctrine (sic!), apart from that of fighting against the system or fighting to win the elections per se. Which, for any informed observer, is obvious that it empties of substance and credibility such a political exposé. People have been left, therefore, in front of a political form with no real substance.

With such a superfluous, shallow and identity-less proposal, not even a village can be managed, let alone a city or a country.

Without having exhausted the subject, I will put it bluntly, in an inflexible manner: the doctrinal differentiation that our party and the ECR Party affirm in an unequivocal, robust, coherent, clear, reasoned and credible program, becomes an absolute trade mark of the Right, meaning a return to normality driven by the objective necessity to govern in the interest of the citizens, through a recognizable and therefore accountable doctrinal framework.

This framework is Conservative. Conservatism is the remedy. We therefore enforce a remedy of authentic conservative origins, built on clear political and economic principles. A remedy that, of course, produces benefits by providing healthy competition, a stable free market economy and supports meritocracy, upholds voluntary community – not involuntary collectivism, protects individual freedom, promotes limited government, inforces the rule of law, believes in peace through strength, assures fiscal responsibility and preserves human dignity.

In the end, I feel compelled to emphasize here and now a domestic issue: the fundamental difference of the political action of the Right Alternative, compared to what has always happened on the domestic political stage, is that our politics, generally speaking, and public policies spring mainly and firstly from doctrinal and programmatic foundations and not from tactical, easy, servile, opportunistic, accommodating or, alas, hysterical approaches.

The conservative rationalism, I might say, of the Right Alternative, combined with prudent and responsible political actions, enforced by the understanding of the objective reality of the country, make our political approach one that does not promise perfect utopias, definitive conquests or any „greater good” with an absolute vocation.

Not at all!

But programmatically, the Alternative conservatism presents pragmatic solutions, which would make the individual more responsible, whether he or she is a simple citizen or a dignitary or an entrepreneur, solutions which give the individuals freedom of action under the rule of law, withdraw the state from its all-supporting and individual debilitating tranches, create the necessary framework for economic growth.

This is the Right Alternative.
